Zé Renato in San Francisco 10 July
Co-founder of the vocal group Boca Livre and a gifted songwriter, the angel-voiced Zé Renato released in the 1990s a string of solo tribute and samba albums. He was one of the first artists invited to join the Biscoito Fino stable, participating in Francis Hime’s Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro de São Sebastião before releasing Memorial with Wagner Tiso.
In July, Zé will embark on a 9-day U.S. tour that will bring him to the Elbo Room in San Francisco on 10 July. It’s my rotten luck to be out of town that day.
The show begins at 9 pm with opening Band Com Você. Tickets are only $10.

More Praça Onze songs

I’m fortunate in having collaborators like Dijalma M. Candido, who generously shares treasures from his 78-rpm disc collection.
Recently Dijalma sent me recordings, lyrics, and label images for ten 1930s and ’40s songs that mention Praça Onze (these on top of all those he’d sent in the past). Thanks to his contributions, parts one, two, and three of Praça Onze in Popular Song have been greatly expanded.
